SUGAR MOON MUSIC ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF FIRST IN SERIES OF TORONTO-BASED MUSIC OF THE 1980s
“Into the 80s: Great TORONTO Bands!” features material previously unreleased and rare gems
Sugar Moon Music Inc. announces the world-wide release of the first of the series “Into the 80s: Great TORONTO Bands!” This collection of rare gems and previously unreleased tracks features some of Canada's best acts, from the international hit artists The Kings to local favourites reggae collective Sun Force. Beautifully re-mastered by Peter Moore (The Trinity Sessions) and with great artwork by David Andoff (A&M Records) and informative liner notes by Jaime Vernon (Moving Targetz, Bullseye Records), this is a great collection of the best pop and rock of the day.
“I couldn't be happier with this collection,” said Margaret Dinsdale, president of Sugar Moon Music. “It's been a blast listening to all this great material and to get tunes that are rare or never heard before has been a bonus. This series should interest music collectors everywhere.”
Some tidbits from the liner notes include Ronney Abramson's track I'm Waiting that was produced by the then up-and-coming Daniel Lanois. Also, Basic English's track that was produced by Terry Brown (Rush, Max Webster, Blue Rodeo). Shuffle Demon's live track includes vocals from Mendelson Joe, Bratty and Micah Barnes.
The release is currently available on iTunes and other digital stores around the world. There is a widget now on the Sugar Moon site where fans can hear the entire album and, with a simple click, purchase the tracks. http://www.sugarmoonmusic.com And since digital stores don't offer liner notes, they will be available on the site on the "Into the 80s" pages. (Right now they are at the bottom of this e-mail.)
The release of the physical CD will be in the fall with a live show featuring bands that have recently reformed, including Shuffle Demons, Basic English and The Jitters, with some very special guests.
This release will be followed with two more releases, the second one, “More Into the 80s” that will feature punk and new wave acts, and a third, “Absolutely Into the 80s” with unique artists such as Mary Margaret O'Hara, Handsome Ned and others. They will all continue the theme of rarities and previously unreleased tracks.
“It is perfect timing to recall a great era of the Toronto music scene,” Dinsdale says. “And stay tuned for the next releases, they will be as fun as this one.”
