A breathtaking roller-coaster ride through the rich history of underground music.”

Wave Maker Magazine

Toronto, ON – February 7, 2013 - Lou Reed began a recent BBC broadcast of his New York Shuffle radio program with three tracks in a row from Odes, a covers album from Toronto centred trans-atlantic group The Flowers Of Hell. The Velvet Underground founder says of the record, “It’s so beautiful and great. I think it’s an AMAZING, AMAZING CD.”

Originally released in Canada in the fall of 2012, Odes is the band’s fourth album.  The full album may be heard on Soundcloud here - http://bit.ly/ZYp7jK. Odes will be digitally re-released on February 12th, 2013 with additional bonus tracks - a version of The Raincoats, No Side To Fall In (with vocals from Optical Sounds labelmates Planet Creature), and an orchestral mix of their Siouxsie & The Banshees cover, The Last Beat Of My Heart.

During Reed’s program, he plays the Flowers Of Hell’s O Superheroin and deems the track “exquisite”. After a few ‘wows’ as it finishes, Reed explains, “That’s Laurie Anderson’s song O Superman mixed with my song Heroin, and then THEM, interpolating, combining, and adding on. They know how some of those sounds were made and they’re in there - that’s kind of amazing really. It made me rethink the whole thing about permission.”

Reed then discusses the group’s background and also plays their Velvet Underground & Nico styled reworking of Mr.Tambourine Man, declaring it “devastating” in its power.  He follows that with a third song from the record, a rendition of Klaatu’s Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft

The album can be purchased on iTunes at www.itunes.com/theflowersofhell. Up next for the group is composing an experimental symphony that they are planning to record in the Congo.
