Campfire at the Cameron III
Songs, stories, treats, sing-alongs, and everything you love about a cozy winter campfire without the soggy boots, drafty tents, and frostbitten noses!

Shawna Caspi (listen) (myspace+listen) (schedule) (Folk)

Elana Harte (listen) (myspace+listen+schedule) (Americana/Acoustic/Folk)
Making good on their promise, they had s’mores, (or at least s’more ingredients) at every table, a camp fire burned brightly on a computer screen behind them, acoustic guitars, and plenty of songs.

With Ben backing them up on bass, Shawna Caspi joined Amy for an opening duet after which Amy Campbell took command of the stage for a solo performance.

Amy’s has what it takes. She masters the vocals. Her voice has has comfortable quality. I don’t know how better to describe it. Take vocal qualities you would normally associate with folk and then turn the quality up a notch. Her voice is also a perfect match for her lyrics, and music both of which are also a notch above the ordinary. A triple threat? Watch this one.
She sang pieces from her latest of three albums, a double CD titled "Oh Heart, Oh Highway". Mixing in stories and snippets of personal vignettes, hers was an enjoyable set.

As I had another appointment, which I was now tempted not to make, I was forced to leave shortly after Amy’s set. I caught the first couple of songs Shawna gave us and would have liked to have heard more of her original tunes, clear voice and down home personality, and well crafted lyrics. The campfire was just warming up when I had to make my exit. Look for Shawn’s CD "Paint by Numbers".

I unfortunately can’t tell you anything about Elana’s performance, however, the following pictures are worth a thousand words and you can Link&Listen to her music. You’ll hear an interesting mix of music and a voice with an impressive range. In fact, if not labelled, you would probably think the peices are sung by two different people. Her latest of 6 albums is "Heart, Soul & Song".

Why more people don’t pile in for shows like this is beyond me. These events are the best kept secrets in the “small town” of Toronto. The music and originality on nights like this are always worth the admission. Let’s get out and support our local talent. Not only are they as good or better than many of the so-called big names in music, these artists appreciate your support, and will personally thank you for attending.
See you next year at “Campfire At The Cameron IV”.
